I have a Dell laptop with OEM Vista on. After a couple of goes and some use of another forum, I've got W7 running on it and I'm pleasently surprised with the performance - it's an Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T5750 @ 2.00GHz with 3GB RAM, a 244GB Toshiba HDD and a DVD writer.

I'm still slightly undecided about selling it, and if I do that I'll restore it to the Vista - I left the bit of disk with that on alone, if all else fails I'd have to get a copy of the Vista DVD and use the key from the OEM sticker on the laptop.

However - what would be the cheapest way to get legal with W7 on it? Think Home Premium will be OK.

Yup

Home Premium is perfect, unless you need remote desktop server or need to join a domain.

If you bought an OEM copy, it would be tied to the laptop. Buy a retail copy and you can move that to a new pc (after removing it from the laptop)

Downside is, Retail costs more than OEM

Thanks, I don't need it putting on for me - I've done that already! And I've tried the W8 beta and don't like it.

Will get an OEM copy - I get student price upgrades for the desktop PC, and this laptop won't get upgraded.

i meant put windows 8 on if you decide to sell it.

If you decide to keep then get your student copy of Win7.
