I'm upgrading from a 3700+ to a 4400+ X2 939.

How does this work? Will I need to do a complete re-install of windows? Will all my drivers still work?

I'm using the stock heatsink for the 3700+, is this good enough to use on the 4400+ as well? I'll only be running it at stock, no overclocking.

TIA, Jon

No need to re-install, just uninstall the normal AMD driver (if you've even installed it) beforehand. You might also need to do a BIOS update to support the newer CPU.

why do you need a bios update? I'm ugrading from a A64 3000 939 to a X2 4200 on an Asus A8N SLI Premium, will i need to update?

I haven't installed the driver. And I've checked the BIOS version supports the dual core CPU.

At what point (if at all) is it necessary to install the "AMD Dual-Core Optimizer" and/or "AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP"?

Thanks for the reply :)

Jon
