Currently running 2x74GB raptors in raid 0, had them for a few years and its time to move on. Im looking for quieter drives, which isnt hard :p , but also looking for performance.

Trying to decide between:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB

or

Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKS)

Ive got 2 of the AAKS drives and love them, but their used for storage so I can't judge OS / App performance. Reviews on the 7200.11 are scarce, would the extra cache make any real difference? Also the 7200.11 has a quicker seek, oh decisions! The price difference isn't really an issue and I'm undecided if i'll run 2 drives in raid yet.

Any thoughts?

Awesome game benchmarks from the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 but the noise output measurements from the review kinda puts me off, louder than a raptor

"perhaps slightly louder than the Barracuda's and Raptor's output"

43.5 dB/A idle noise - overall noise envelope is indeed higher than today's average FDB motor-based drive
