Upgrade TV question!

I need your opinions people!
I currently have this TV -

and the missus said she wants to get me this for Christmas - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-PS51D550-51-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B004SMCEDM

Is it worth the upgrade as I don't want to waste her money - it'll be used for Xbox 360 and PS3 and Blu Rays!

Plasma will use lots more power but give a true black compared to LCD, if you are watching loads of films it probably is worth it but the electricity bills will go up.

What about for gaming as well? I just don't want to get one and be worse off image wise?

The electricity bill thing doesn't bother me too much!
