Hey guys

Just upgraded my Graphics card from my old OCUK 8800GTX to a BFG 260GTX OC2. All was working fine to start with but if I start a graphical aplication (ie Cysis or Empires Total War) my PC will shut down within 10 - 15 minuets. CPU temp isnt very high at all and my GPU temps seem to be around the 70s when under load.

My system is the following

Asus Striker Extream
Intel Q6600
4gb OCZ Ram
BFG 260GTX OC2
Enermax Galaxy 1000W PSU
Zalman Zmachine Case

just tried it with the CD drivers seems to make no difference. Didnt have SLI drivers installed before as I whipped out my second card a while back.

Just an idea, but have you connected both PCI E cables from the PSU to the graphics card?

Was your system fine when you had the 8800GTX installed?

I had a similar problem a couple of years back when I first purchased my old 8800GTX, I installed it, and everything seemed to be fine, but when I went to play games, it would run for about 5 or 10 minutes before shutting my system down...

It turned out to be my PSU that was faulty.. I know you have a really good PSU, but it may well be worth testing with another PSU, or if you dont have another one at hand, then you could maybe test out the new card in a friends PC to see whether or not it happens on their machine as well...

Yeah both connectors are in. I am able to sit on EvE with no problems and managed to do a lot of single battles in Empires Total War (with everything on max) so it seems to be a bit more stable with the older drivers than before. However not perfect as it still shuts down. I could try it in my wifes PC but she only has a 500W PSU and I would need to remover her from the Sims 3 lol

I have been thinking this the fan dosnt seem to be spinning that fast. Is there any software that will show fan speeds etc that will overlap games?

As I was reading down the other posts I thought it might be this, funnily enough my 8800GTX does this, fan only spins at 40% by default, even when gaming and it should be spinning higher.
I use Rivatuner to adjust it, set it to run 100% when gaming and 50% when not

Firstly, I would try once more to reinstall the drivers, use DriverSweeper to completely clear them (follow the instructions provided on that page).

If the problems persist, you could check the fan speed with RivaTuner, which could help to see if the fan is faulty.

Been talking to BFG and downloaded PC wizard. Fan speeds seem to be at 40% and by the time they start getting faster its too hot and shuts down. I have looked at my PSU voltage and it is showing 3.3v = 3.22v, 5v=4.93 and 12v=11.58v

does that look ok to you?

think I have cracked it. Changed the fan settings in the Nvidia control panel to 80% been sat on Far Cry 2 for a couple of hours and temps seem to be around the 55-60 mark and hasnt shut down yet. Now for the big test crysis on max settings :)

Right deffently seems to be the Nvidia control panel messing it up. Spent the weekend on Empire Total War with the settings maxed out (looks very nice now) and it didnt even stutter with the fan speed cranked up. My old 8800GTX used to have a Thermal take heatsink with its own fan speed control so never really needed the control panel till now. Is there any way for me to make the control panel default at 80% or do I need to go in and change it every boot up?
