Hi,
My question is about workstation v. high-end desktop builds. My current machine is in the spec below, but I run cellular genetic-algorithm simulations on it. They're extensively threaded and cpu/mem intensive, and I intend to bump to quad-core/4GB/vista-64 towards Q3/Q4'07 (depending on Vista SP1).
That's assuming I can hold-off yorkfield and a full-rebuild - which I can't justify financially anyway!!
I've been reading about latest-gen Xeon Q-Core and workstation mobos, but I'm in a lot of doubt about good driver support. My machine is also for personal use, gaming, etc. I'm concerned that I won't find drivers for sound-cards, highpoint raid card, and suitable graphic cards, and so on, on a dedicated workstation build.
So I was hoping some of you guys might have experience in this, and hopefully would post your experiences/recommendations.
To be honest, I don't need a huge amount more than, I think, QX6700+4GB would give, but the simulations tend to get ever more elaborate. I *could* sacrifice personal use if it came to outright performance. I suppose I'm concerned about price, performance, and support issues first and foremost.
Suggestions please, and tia.

Kind regards,

mk
