Upgrade with new monitor?

Here is the core of my PC, no over-clocking and I accidentally purchase the non K variant of the processor.

  • Sapphire HD 7970 3072MB PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • Asus Z77 Sabertooth Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
  • Intel Core i7-2600 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
  • 2 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)
  • Crucial RealSSD M4 512GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CT512M4SSD2)
  • Corsair Professional Series AX850 850W Modular PSU - 80plus Gold Certified
  • Dell Ultrasharp U2410 Monitor

I will be getting Fallout 4, maybe Star Wars battlefront and less likely the next Call of Duty :D

I also do a lot of photography and photo editing, lightroom and photoshop. I've been thinking about getting a bigger monitor and this one has took my fancy.

1) Any thoughts on that monitor? it seems to be quite new so might not be much to go on. Just previously large monitors haven't been recommended for gaming.

2) Is it worth making some upgrades to my current spec?

You need more power, especially in the graphics department, to game well @ 4K on Mid-High. Obviously depends on game but for stuff like Witcher 3, GTA V etc, the ideal is 2 x 980Ti or similar. Some people are quite happy with 30 FPS or so, though... and some games run superbly even with a single 980Ti. I guess you could always run difficult games at a lower res if need be.

A single 980Ti should be an excellent pairing with a 2560 x 1440.

This is just my understanding and present viewpoint from reading reviews, watching vids etc, for what it's worth. I haven't had the opportunity to personally mess around with 4K and a 980Ti.
