Upgrade worth it or not

Hi

Looking at the prices of the X2 939's it looks like it could be a good time for me to consider upgrading. I currently have a 3700 running at 2.81GHz and was thinking of going for the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+.

Can anyone tell me if these overclock as well as the 3700 and as easily.
Because I am no overclocking expert and would have to use my limitted knowledge from overclocking the 3700.

DO you need Dual core ?

if you just play games, then extremely good chance the 2nd core will not be used.

Might be worth upgrading something else in this case (i.e more memory or fast GFX)

Well I do a little of everything but not sure if I would use the dual core to it's potential but I am planing on having this machine for a while and just thought it may be better investment in the long run.

I have an ATI X1900XT that is clocked to XTX speeds and 2GB of memory so don't see the need to change any of those just at the moment.

Go with the dual-core (but NOT the 4200). Looking into my eCrystal ball something tells me the low prices will create a shortage inturn increasing the prices & production's ending soon if not ended. Besides dual-core gaming issues have only one way to go, i.e. Resolved Close

well if you have the itch, and money to spend - go for it

As pointed out, games will get fixed/released, it just depended upon your use(s) of the system and expected life span.
