i recently put a thread in the price check as i'm thinking of upgrading.

Problem is i'm torn on wether it will actually be worth the outlay.

current system:

Intel E8400 running stock (not really fussed on OC'ing)
Asus Maximus Formula x38
4GB Corsair Dominator
Zotac Amp! GTX275 (pre OC'd)

running Samsung monitor @ 1680x1050

thinking about:

Intel I7 920
Asus P6T X58
6GB of good ram
Ati 5870.

I play lots of FPS games, and do a bit of photo editing in Photoshop.
I'm thinking about it mainly to be ready for the release of Battlefield BC2 as i've heard whispers it runs better on quads.
I put the components in my basket at least twice a day on OcUK, then delete them out.

Help me decide please

In general games i don't think you'll see much of an improvement, if Battlefield does run better on quads then is it worth the money for one game? If you can warrant the costs for the upgrade then wat the hell go for it it will be a beast.

At that resolution your graphics card should be ok.

How about a i5, board and ram, an intel i7 860 is a fast chip and uses a cheaper board and dual channel ram.

Is there not a pre-release Battlefield BC2 if you have a pre-order (refer to games thread)?

Why not get hold of it and see how it runs on your current rig first?
