So, I am going to setup my 5.1 again as frankly, I am fed up with headphones for single player experiences.

So, do I stick with the Z5500 or maybe look at using an AVR setup with hi-fi seperate speakers?

I'm in the same place but not quite as well off - i have some ageing logitech X-540 speakers that have taken to a low hum when no sound going through. My office room is probably too small for something like the z906 (the inferior sibling to the Z5500)not for size but according to the reviews they are very difficult to tame. You kind of have too loud or off.

I'm looking at going to a AVR or just a 5.1 amp and a set of speakers & sub.

I’ve stuck with my Z5500 system as has a friend.

if I was connecting Tv, console etc I’d go for something else though.

I had the same issue but with the Z-5500, had to replace ALL the capacitors on the amp board as they had all dried out (when the missus switched on the cooker hood, you'd get a loud pop etc) and since then the humming sound has vanished entirely. I think it cost me around £20 for all the caps so money well spent. I keep eyeballing the Z906 as a replacement but a lot of reviews are stating they lack the low end thump of the Z-5500 :/

I have had my Z5500 for years and it is still going strong.
Paired it with a Xonar D2X soundcard and found the 10.0.8.1825 Xear3d driver to be the best for me with W10 - sounds far better than the previous driver I was using.
Very large room, approx 13m x 7m

Have been contemplating switching to a AVR system, with some decent floor-standing speakers.....but will likely wait until this gives up the ghost.

I have exactly this set up and still can't see the benefit of upgrading, even though my set up is yonks old.

I am looking for some floor stands for my rear speakers though, does anyone know what would work?

I have run speaker wires in the walls to the far end of the room, when this system eventually gives up I will change to good quality floor standers I think

Your post had me look at my Z5500's that I haven't used since the 360 days. My son plays like most kids with a headset. TBH the sub had become like a footstool under my desk. I was about to chuck them out as even when I demo'd them to him he wasn't interested. Then I saw what they go for 2nd hand!

Thanks Gimpy, you made me £120 this week :D Which isn't bad as they were a free set sent to me in 2005/6ish from Logitech as my previous speakers they no longer made developed a fault.
