I have an old A7N8XZ Deluxe Socket A motherboard with a 1.10 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP in it and 1 Gig of memory.
Was thinking of passing it on to me daughter and have seen some Socket A 1.6/1.8 Duron,s for around 35 quid.

Would it be worth the cash just to give the system a boost.

Any thoughts would be helpful. :)

Hi!

Welcome to the forum :)

A 1.1GHz Athlon XP to a 1.6GHz Duron won't be an upgrade I'm afraid as the Durons are a fair bit slower clock for clock. Are you sure that the XP runs at 1.1GHz? Perhaps it's a mobile chip - the slowest desktop Athlon XP is the XP1500 which runs at 1.33GHz

For £35 you should be able to pick up a second hand XP2400+ - this would be a fair boost over your current chip and far, far better than a 1.6GHz Duron

Hi, and thanks for the reply.

Yep your right, got me details wrong, it's just a bog standard Athalon and Sandra has confirmed it as a 1.09GHz model.

According to the manual I dug out last night it should take up to an XP3000 so I,ll have to get digging down the local fairs and see what I find.

Thanks :D
