Hi folks,

Currently I have a Geforce 5950 Ultra (AGP) and was wondering what my best option is to upgrade this.

I have asked about upgrading before but just can't afford to upgrade the whole PC at the mo' so and trying to eek that little bit more out of the one I have which is

Asus A7N8X-Deluxe with AMD Athlon 3000+ and 1GB RAM

I am not too bothered if it's Nvidia or ATI but it has to be AGP 8x and around the £100 mark, or not too far beyond.

Any ideas are much appreciated.

Cheers,

You could go for an ati x1600, I don't know much about them but the specs look ok. You can get it off ocuk for £88.07 including vat .

I don't see much point in investing in AGP or the current PCIE cards unless you can find a bargain. We'll be seeing DX10 hardware soon enough anyway.

If you were really sensible about it you could get something like an x800 at auction for a bargain, then volt mod it and oc it.

Just my 2 cents.

I didn't think that there would be DX10 cards supporting AGP?

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. If you sensible and spending wary the following applies. It's not worth spending anything other than bargain amounts on AGP because its on its way out. It's not worth spending loads on a PCIE card at the moment either as it won't have the DX10 support you're going to wish it had next year.

7600GS AGP is a good bet as if the 7600GT (faster) is you can stretch to it.

However I would reccomend having a look around and see if you can pick up a second hand 6800GT or 6800GS. Both should be quicker than a 7600GS yet be cheaper than a 7600GT.

The Leadtek 7600 GT is £123, bit more than is ideal for a 7600 GT but as it is AGP unavoidable. If you can stretch your budget for the extra will be a really nice card :)

Folks that great info escpecially the relative performance of the cards.

There's just too many new things around these days with too many obscure model number, I mean 6800GS 6800GT 6800Ultra X1600, X1800 etc it;s hard to mknow what's what.

Say, can anyone give me a link to a regularly updated comparison article where this sort of stuff is made clear? Is there one here on OCUK?

Thanks again,
