ASUS P5WD2E-Premium MB
2GB Corsair XMS 8500 RAM
Intel D955 Extreme Processor @ 3.4Ghz

What would the MB take in terms of Core series processors + which one would be a good upgrade!

No games - video + photo editing etc!!!!

Your mobo does not take Core 2 Duo chips becuase it does not have the latest VRM11 power requirement to run the new chips.

So you need to change mobo for the new CPU.
