I currently have a very old system that's really starting to show its age. It's time to replace it with something considerably better.

I'm replacing the following:
Athlon 2100+ (slightly overclocked)
Asrock K7NF2
GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB
1GB DDR 400
LianLi PC60 Modded
AOPEN 1640 Pro slot load DVD
HP Lightscribe DVDRW
Volcana 7+

I'm thinking...
E6600
EVGA 680i
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX KO ACS3
2GB OCZ 6400 Platinum Rev 2
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme along with a Scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM fan
Some kind of SATA DVDRW
Torn between cases. Will probably go with an Aurora 570.

and then the stuff I can salvage from my old system.
250GB Seagate 7200.10
80GB Maxtor (will probably put this in an external drive case)
600W Enermax Noisetaker
Logitech G15
Razer Diamondback Plasma
Dell 2007WFP

Anything I should think about changing and why?

I realise the GTX is overkill for my resolution but as I'm going back to Canada for a visit next month, getting married next summer (plus honeymoon in the Maldives) and then going back to Canada for my best friends wedding a month later, this has to last me 2 years without any expensive upgrading.

Hey Tripnologist just a few things i would change:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Noctua NH-U12F (Socket LGA775/754/939/940/AM2) Heatsink
Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard
CellShock 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe
Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case - No PSU
Total : £858.78

The E6420 will overclock just like the E6600, but just saves a bit of cash.
The Motherboard supports DDR2, DRR3 plus Intels new upcoming Processors, Penryn Cores.
The Cellshock Memory, very high quality stuff, one of the best around, you wont have any problems.
The case, extremely well built, not sure if its your type though, well worth looking into though:

Just out of interest what res do you actually play at?

1680x1050.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them out.

Edit: I'll switch to the CellShock memory and the lower GTX. I can just OC it anyway.
I think I'll stick with the EVGA motherboard though. In two+ years time when I can upgrade again, I'll need to buy a new motherboard anyway so having DDR3 capability now doesn't really give me any benefit.

Any reason why you suggest that heatsink instead of the Ultra 120?
