Ok my current system is as follows:

ASUS SLi Premium Mobo
AMD X2 64 4400+
2gb corsair 3200 ram
nVidia 7800GTX

I play a lot of games and am looking at upgrading to windows vista 64bit. I don't really want to completely revamp the whole thing but which bits would you pick out?

I was hoping on just the ram with the view of upgrading the graphics card at a later date.

Any recommendations for replacements would be appreciated too :)

Cheers guys

you need to specify a budget

ther are new graphics cards 'round the corner (17th and 19th june) so it's worth having a look to see what the state-of-play is there with regards to cost and performance of new cards.

keep saving and waiting is my vote, £200 will give you a slight improvement but waiting will allow you to gain a better improvement unless prices raise drastically.

Stretch the budget a wee bit :)

E8200 ?
Abit IP35 Non Pro ?
Geil Ultra DDR 6400 2GB ?

Should all come in quite cheap.. but I can't check prices atm sorry cause I'm off to watch tv !

ok well the thing is, i'm looking at upgrading but nothing huge tbh. i'm transferring to vista and other than the ram and graphics card i probably wasn't looking at changing anything else too soon.
however, i'm no expert so if you think i should consider changing other parts can you add why too.

I've been out of the upgrading "game" for some time now so apologies for the repetitiveness of the the topic.

from what I can gather it looks like i need a complete revamp: mobo, cpu and ram for a decent improvement right? is my mobo completely useless now then? if this is the case i'll wait until xmas i guess.

depending on what gaming you do you're current system isnt too bad, if you into cod4/crysis etc then the gfx card is the main upgrade to help.

running vista 64bit you should go with 4gb of ram but don't see the point of getting another 2gb of ddr, stay with winxp until you move to a ddr2 mobo.

ah cool i understand now. cod4 and crysis worked fine on max, had to lower settings for assassin's creed but tbh i only played these games briefly, i'm more of an old school css and wow player so i may just wait and just reformat with xp. cheers for the help

it worked fine on max... i completed it without issues at 1024*768. i wasn't really here for a bitch just help with an upgrade.
