I currently have AMD opty 175 Asus A8ndeluxe with 3Gb ram and vistau 64bit.
I mainly do video editing and playin generals online. Was thinking of the I7 but tis bit expensive:)
I have a budget of about £800 max including monitor, ideally would like intel quad core but will go AMD route.
Currently have the following specs

Few things, neither spec has a PSU, are you using your old one or did you miss it out?
You say your budget is £800max but you spent £900, are you wanting us to save you money? or is £900 your budget
In your spec you include triple channel DDR3, you want dual channel DDR3 for that board

This uses the tricore CPU, it should be just as good really, Ive included PSU, which if you dont need will save you £40, there is cheaper dual channel DDR3 but its out of stock atm, if it comes back in that'll save you another £20, you could just get the coolermaster case as RJC specced and save another £20 there, thats you down to £800 near enough. You may also be able to use your old optical driver maybe?
I included a slightly better monitor with better resolution and a different gfx card, the 2 cards are prob about equal performance wise tbh so go for either, just giving you options

Currently speced this up. Would a downgrade in GFX be a big loss? I dont play FPS only command and conquer.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice / spec. After dilly dallyting about cost v use, in the end I opted for the I7 920 DO, XFX 4850 512MB , 6GB TC 1600 memory, CM dominator case, F1 1TB HDD, ell 2409W monitor and asus P6T mobo. In all came to £880 with a bit of shopping around. Good service from OC, now roll on Monday for all the toys to arrive.

bit of a jump from £350 for the tower, have fun building it, then try playing gta 4 and watch as your 920 laughs at it

It was:D:D
In the end the small voice won out over sense :rolleyes:. I could have gone down the other route and upgraded in a yeare but this will do me. The next one should be cheaper as no monitor to worry about:D
