hi been thinking about upgrading and cant decide :) got a 8800gs now and was thinking about sli ( can prob get 1 for 60£) or a new 260 216 at what 130£.
which should i go for extra 60£ sounds good but what type of increase will i get and will it be that much of a hassle to run sli ?
would it be just as easy to get 1 260 ?or maybe something from ati, cant do crossfire on my board.
currently playin at 1680*1050 and play mostly driving games.
any advice taken :D cheers mel

8800GS SLI will give you very varied performanec - on balance it will be about 9800GTX+/4850 performance but in some cases as fast as a 260GTX - the lack of VRAM and slow RAM bus will hold it back a lot in other cases tho.

ATi causes lots of problems in UT3, read epic forums the ammount of people with problems with 48xx Range cards.

Mostly Artificating, and random frame drops, and crashing when entering a teleporter.

I only ever had the Frame drop problems with my previous ATi. So far i think i should give nVidia a try. And i think the OP should try the 260, or wait for the next generation cards.

Currently, i do not plan to go abouve 1680x1050, so i have no reason for a next generation card at the games and res i play.

IMO - Either get the GTX 260, or wait it out till october.

hmm odd as I've played ut3 on everything from the x1800xt to 4890 and 8800GTS 640mb to GTX 260 216 and not ever had a single problem.

Only thing I have noticed is that the game does not always want to pop back up after alt-tabbing to desktop....but this has occurred what seems to be randomly with both red and green cards.

I'm going green this time anyway - People who have switched from 48xx to 260 say it is great.. and almost equal performance but AA and AF is apparently better on Green than Red.

Anyway, i'll soon be able to post my own proper opinion after i get which ever card this saturday.

Performance wise its swings and roundabouts - as far as AA goes ATI generally looks prettier in screenshots - but I've always needed a higher level on ATI than nVidia to mask jaggies from my perception when playing.
