Would I notice a difference form a AMD 3500+ to a 4000+?

not really.

Are we talking 939 chips or AM2 ?

Also ether socket you should be easy able to OC the 3500+ to 4000+ levels

If Its AM2 get yourself a cheap dual core eg 4200+, If its 939 start saving 4 a new mobo cpu & ram as dual core 939 chips are crazy money atm

You would notice more difference going to a dual core amd,
much cheaper than a m/m, cpu & memory upgrade.
