its upgrade time again. i have a htc wildfire and looking at the blackberry 9300 curve 3g and the blackberry 9780.

is there any major differences or have they only re designed the facial aspects of the handset.

they have a qwerty solid keyboard so im not waiting for a touch screen keyboard to appear and less likely to make errors.

Touch screen is miles better than it used to be, the wildfire is not a fair representation of what the onscreen keyboard is like on superior phones. I used to be like you and denounce touchscreen, however after playing with a Desire, Desire HD and Iphone i am a convert, typing a text on them is easy as pie.

If you absolutely MUST have a qwerty keyboard however, i'd recommend the Desire Z over blackberry.

Well, out of the two you've listed, i'd go for the Bold 9780. Better camera, more internal memory, better screen.

Still think you're mad to write off far superior products due to touch screen or a hinge though :p

[EDIT] Stop me if i'm wrong, but i think the curve also lacks GPS, further making the Bold the better phone.

What dont you like about the touch screen keyboard? The way most of them work is superb now and you can type just as fast as you can on a Blackberry keyboard with practice, if not faster :)

Thanks, i will probably look into it a bit more before spending any money as im waiting to see if any new htc's come out in the next few months due to due to the current situation in japan

The 'situation' in Japan isn't really having an impact on HTC.

HTC have two new phones coming out, one is due mid-May and that is the HTC Sensation. I would seriously ditch your keyboard requirement and just get used to a touchscreen one, you are just shooting yourself in the foot otherwise.

i have a htc wildfire which is lower range to the desire or a later model so the touch screen is not the best and can have a one second lag for the speed that i type whichmakes spelling errors

Do not compare the Wildfire to any of the newer phones, it has a small screen which is horrible to use and the phone is slow anyway.

Id say go for the 9780 OP...its better phone than the 9300...i have the white 9780 and compared to my ex fiancee's 9300...its much a better built phone...its faster as well and has a 5mp camera with flash on it whereas the 9300 doesnt have a flash so night time pics....well good luck trying to take any decent ones:p.

The 9780 is a solid phone and definitely one id recommend...the 9300 is a decent phone as well but compared to the 9780...there really isnt any competition...the screen res on the 9780 is better than the 9300.

Plus remember the battery life on BB's are 9/10 times better than any other device out there including the Androids.

The 8520 curve does not have a GPS built in...other than that all the other BB devices as far as i know have built in GPS.

I personally cannot stand on screen keyboards...i have an iphone4 which winds me up to no end as i cant text or type an email as fast as i can with my 9780...i had a torch before the 9780 which had both the keyboard and onscreen keyboard and again i couldnt stand typing on the on screen keyboard....i personally dont think any of the Android onscreen keyboards are any better than what is currently out there.

Aha :p

In the case of the 9780 Bold though, it apparently can go 4 days on VERY light use, I can probably get 5 from my iPhone 4 (with email sync on).

That isn't all that good to be fair considering how little of a screen it has.

I dont know...i get a good days to 2 days use out of my 9780 as i use it pretty hard ie quite a few calls, lots of texts and even more emails so obviously with that useage the battery wont last long. Whereas my iphone4, listening to music and playing games, browsing the net and using whatsapp...im lucky if it lasts the whole day...im usually down to 5% by the time i go to sleep and my 9780 is usually at 30% or more.

Still, that is heavier use on the iPhone and you would have to charge it either way at 5/10% or 30%.

Yep both phones are charged everynight in their charging cradles...although every few days or so i drain both batteries then charge them fully.
