Hey guys, Just a few questions. I have the r9 290 xfx AMD. Was wondering if we knew if they will be fully dx12 yet or not. I am considering upgrading to the r9 390x/390 on release if that isn't the case. My brother has just returned his gtx 970 after Nvidia misold them and has been given his money back and is also waiting for the 390x/390. He obviously needs to upgrade now and he won't go back with Nvidia again and I can't blame him tbh. He said he may buy a 290x if we know they are full dx12 usable.

According to AMD all GCN based cards will work with DX12 but the Maxwell architecture is reported to be the first fully supporting and optimised for DX12, so it's questionable whether 290X performance will be as good as GTX970.

In a meeting with a gathering of press to show off the Xbox App for Windows 10, Mike Ybarra, partner director of program management who leads engineering efforts for console and PC, responded to the following question about DirectX 12 support of graphics cards.

"To get the full support of DX12 will users need to get a new graphics card?"

To get the "full benefits of DX12," Ybarra replied, "the answer is yes."

"There will be DX 11.1 cards that take advantage of a lot of the driver and software tech that we're bringing in Windows 10, but if you want the full benefits of DX12, you're going to need a DX12 card."

you mean you RMAd your own card and now you've decided to open a thread so you can Troll like crazy..........no, you'll have to do much better than this m8 ;)

No Mal I never had a 970. Not everyone is trying to troll as you put it. My brother had the 970. My previous card before this was the gtx 670 as you will see if you look back over my past posts.
Thanks the rest of you, I think for me I will wait till the 390x is released and see what they bring. I am not so sure my brother can wait that long, he doesn't even have an old card to use at the moment hehe.
