Hi,

Looking for help on upgrading my graphics card. I'm not much of a heavy Gamer so probably looking at buying second hand.

My pc main use is photoshop and recently started dirt 3.

Any recommendations for around £100-£150

thanks.

if recent version of photoshop (CS5 or newer),I believe cuda acceleration is supported, meaning you'll get way more mileage from a nVidia GPU.

a single 670 will destroy dirt 3 at up to 1440p, and guessing from that you're not likely to play the latest games that often!

you should be able to get one for around £65 on the members market (not sure if you have access, as I can't recall when the requirements changed!)

the only game that has made me want to upgrade from my pair is ARK:Survival Evolved, and from what I've seen even a titanX isn't massively better in that - just need optimising.

The last standalone version of Photoshop is CS6 and that doesn't have CUDA, GPU acceleration is OpenCL

thanks for the advice. I don't have access to the members market and quite a while off the minimum post count. eBay prices as per are high and AVforum get the odd card put up.

I would prefer an AMD card as hoping this upgrade will last me a few years, my 5850 was second hand and never had any problems.

Any problems with a Sapphire R9 290? ... might of found 1 on the bay which is at a low price for now.

Is it a Tri-X? if so its fine, don't go for the reference blower coolers as they tend to run much hotter and louder.

PS: if your still running a HD 5850 you're in for a performance jump shock with a 290 or even a 280 :D

was the reference blower coolers. Sure am still using my 5850 so looking forward to the upgrade.

Will go looking for a reasonably priced 280/290 card.

thanks for the advice.
