Hi,
I bought this pc about ten years ago and it was left in my parents when i moved out.I am wondering if it can be upgraded to a decent gaming pc ? I payed around 2000 for it so im hoping somethings of use its has a intel quad core 2 (im trying to attach a pic )

Welcome aboard.

If case was up to date, that could be usable. (myself using soon 11 year old case)
Anything else is likely completely unusable/dog slow.

Well, guess you could use HDD for media storage etc.
(just take care of backups in case of important data)

New rig it is...im completely out of touch with pc latley...brifley what should i go for with a 1000 pound budget for gaming
Folks like @orbitalwalsh and @EsaT are much better informed to give you advice like that so hopefully somebody will pop in soon to give you some guidance, though if you state what games you play and what resolution you'll be playing at then that will make a more specific response to your needs.

Fps games...im probally going to go 4k
Not going to get good graphics card for that resolution into that budget.
2560x1440 is easier goal, though getting constant high refresh rate in heaviest games would still require dropping some settings.

For PSU I would start from Bitfenix Formula, above 550W models are just out of stock.

(80+ bronze efficiency would be even older than your old pc)

discounted corsair rmx650 is right now best priced 10 year warranty fully modular psu.

For case do you want "more bling bling and colour lights than in Las Vegas", or want discreet look?
