I am curently running a 5820K (@4.2) , x99-s, 16gb corsair 2666 ram, 3 x ssd and a 2080(Msi Sea Hawk EK)

Custom loop for both cpu and gpu.

Monitor is Dell 34" Curved - 3440x 1440 60 hz

Am thinking of upgrading to a 3700x BUT as I only use the pc for internet and gaming do wonder wether I will see any benefit.

Should I instead consider an update to my monitor as the priority?

Thoughts appreciated.

What games are you currently playing? Is your CPU/GPU maxed out on the games/resolutions you play (at)

If not look at the monitor option.

That CPU is 4th gen Haswell architecture based, so Zen2 Ryzen would certainly bring some advantage.
(while giving update path to Zen3)

But for 60Hz monitor it likely isn't yet that bad.
Anyway in monitors you might want to wait for high refresh rate 3840x2160 models.
Those should be coming during winter.

Thanks for the replies - they helped in making my decision!

Decided that next upgrade should be for a new 144mhz gsync monitor and then I will look at cpu+board+ram- however will defer until next year !!

(Although, to scratch the itch I will probably look at a new case (fractal design r6) in the near future :))

My thanks again

Unless liking the idea of chaining yourself to be Nvidia's cash cow/slave you should avoid G-Sync only monitors like plague.
What you should be aiming at is Adaptive Sync (called mostly FreeSync) monitor.
Nvidia removed artificial from the start disable-FreeSync bit from drivers in January.
And besides AMD's resurgence also Intel is joining discrete GPU game in next year. So in couple years GPU market can look entirely different.

Besides case PSU is another good "place to scratch" if current one is older/not high quality.
High quality PSUs aren't "perishable" products.
