Am currently running 5900x, on an asus strix x570 e 2 with 32gb of ddr3600 (timings of 14,15,15,35 - 4 sticks of 8gb).

Gpu is 7900xt - not bothered about upgrading this at moment

Storage 3.5 tb - again not considering upgrading.

A good upgrade for the core of cpu+motherboard+ram?

What exactly do you use your PC for? Mainly gaming or are there any workloads such as rendering etc?

For gaming what resolution/refresh do you run at, which games do you play?

What sort of performance issues are you having if any?

Mainly gaming - no rendering or other such workloads.

Monitor is Oled 3440x 1440 175hz refresh

No performance issues as such , just thought an upgrade to Am5 might be a good idea - Would sell existing to part fund

Apologies for not putting the above info at start!!

If you only game you could always just pick up a 5700X3D, selling your 5900X would probably cover most of the cost and it's be a straight CPU swap.

That said, depending on the titles you play you might not really see much uplift, mainly better minimums. If you're happy with current performance I'd just wait, maybe revisit the idea in a year or two when the 10800X3D launches if you still have the itch. With some luck we might have some GPU's worth upgrading to by then also, it's the earliest I'll be doing a full rebuild from what I have assuming I don't just wait it out until AM6 launches as I'm already running a 5800X3D.

Very clear that the consensus is 'stick with what you have'.

Have decided that the 'itch' will have to remain unscratched !!

Thanks for the advice

Yeah x570 /am4 is still a great platform
Probably the best and longest running socket
I can remember
Likewise sitting with a crosshair viii extreme
And 5950x and 3080ti
Motherboard has 5 x m2 ,usb 4, 10gb ethernet etc
Hard to justify upgrading no matter how much
I get the not bought something new for ages itch

Nice ram timings you have there

Intel Sandybridge.

Particularly if you had an i7. My old CPU is still going today, it over clocks still even today at 5ghz the thing is mental.

But yes AM4 I agree has lasted and has to be up there.

yeah, in recent times..would say, chipsets and CPU that have given about a decade of decent performance:

X58 - chuck in a X5650 + oc and it would be a respectable system up to 2020-ish
LGA1155 - 2500k/2600k oc
X99 - 5820k and you're grand up until the last couple of years
AM4 - incremental upgrades over the years up to the 5800x3d
