Upgraded system and now Windows won't load!

I have 2 IDE Hard drives, one with Windows XP and the other with Linux installed on, both linked together using GRUB, and both OS's worked fine.

Anyway I upgraded my system by installing a new motherboard, cpu, ram and graphics card.

The computer recognises both the operating systems, but when i try and load Windows, it will flash a blue screen with what appears to be white writing on it for less than half a second, and then restarts the computer.

I've tried booting into safe mode, and safe mode with CMD prompt, but again the computer just restarts itself.

I can boot into Linux but am having trouble connecitng the the internet, and am tempted to just start fresh and format my HDD and start all over again.

Is this advisable or might there be a more sensible solution to my problems?

The other problem is that of course if I can't boot into the CMD prompt through safe mode, how will I be able to reformat the disc?

Could I do this by using the WinXP startup disc?

Thanks for any assistance.

Use the WinXP startup disk and make sure you don't overwrite the Linux partition

If you've installed a new motherboard etc it always requires a re-format and re-install of the operating systems im afraid.

WindowsXP more so than linux, but windows needs to be re-installed from scratch.
As your original install of windows will still be modified for your old motherboard, when you add your new motherboard it will just install aditional drivers but still leave the old ones behind which causes all sorts of problems (the blue screen of death).

Backup, format, and re-install..

Its the only safe way.

You dont need to format and reinstall. Boot off the XP CD and do a repair install over your XP partition. You'll need to reinstall service packs, patches, drivers etc after this is done.

Yes, but because of the changed hardware he's gonna need to re activate windows.. it's easier to do it from scratch ;)
