i was running a asus p8p67-pro 2600k sandy setup with samsung green ram at 2133mhz and cpu at 4.9ghz stable at 1.38volts 24/7 overclock

now i have the same ram but at 2400mhz, haswell 4770k and asus z87-pro but for the life of me cant get the CPU past 4.5ghz without it blue screening all the while

only reason for my upgrade is i wanted pci-e 3 for crossfire in the future but now im not even sure it was worth me upgrading as the haswell doesnt even hit anywhere near as fast as my old sandy setup

Even at its current speed it's as fast as your 2600k due it having higher I'm.

And set the RAM at 1600Mhz.... Running high RAM clocks can reduce the maximum core clock on Haswell.

Running the ram overclocked hasn't made the slightest difference to my overclock. Max with the ram at 1600mhz is exactly the same as at 2133mhz. I found my max overclock (4.8ghz) with 2x sticks at 1600mhz before putting in all 4 sticks and increasing to 2133mhz and it's still 4.8Ghz. Takes silly volts to hit 4.8Ghz so i run at 4.5Ghz day to day.

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that Haswells will not overclock to the same speeds as Sandy Bridge but that the performance was made up by the better architecture of the newer chip. You probably haven't gained much in the way of CPU performance but you will have PCI-E 3 which sounds like what you were after.

Have you had to increase cpu vcore at all pasty since clocking the ram up? Ive recently upgraded to some 2400mhz ram, but currently have the cpu at stock. Ram is set using the xmp profile.

Nope, exactly the same vcore needed for 2 sticks and 4 sticks. In fact not had to touch anything. Just stuck the second pair of sticks in and it has been fine. Cpu cache is also at 4.5Ghz. Not running XMP profiles though as i have tweaked and tightened all of the ram timings. Running at 9-10-10-21 1T with tightened second and third timings at 1.5v. You have to love Sammy Green sticks. :D

What's the default vcore of the chip? I've found > 1.1v you''ll be lucky to get to 4.4v without a lot of volts and really good cooling/delidding.
