Upgraded to Windows 8.1, and SSD

Hi guys.

So I'm a bit of a noob with this stuff to be honest. But, I enjoy the challenge and love to learn more haha.

I've not really ever installed Windows, especially not to a brand new HDD or anything. But the other day I did.

So originally I was on Windows 7, installed onto a 500GB hard drive. I removed all my drives (as well as identifying the windows one), then installed my SSD and booted up, installed 8.1 to it, and boom, all good (minus my Asus software being a bit of a bane with the LAN drivers again)

All has gone well, and I'm a happy bunny now! Another challenge completed!

But now I'm stuck. For some reason, it will not boot automatically, by that I mean, when I power up, I have to wait for it to ask me to go into BIOS/Set up, then go to my boot menu, and manually select my SSD to get it to go.

It's still a hell of a lot faster than before.

However I can't seem to beat it, my SSD is first in the boot list?

Using@;

Asus Maximus VI Extreme Mobo
Samsung 840EVO 1TB
Windows 8.1

Don't think CPU and GPU are important or relevant, but here they are;

nVidia GeForce GTX 780
Intel i7 4770K 3.50Ghz

32Gb DDR3

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So far I can only assume there's something in BIOS somewhere either telling it to ask me, or still looking for my Windows 7 drive? But I can't see anything anywhere about them!

Thanks again!

Yeah I seem to remember there being one in there, if I go into the EZ mode, there is a slider there, that allows me to slide each device into order (For some reason it's not showing my 1TB Hard Drive), it shows the Evo as first in the queue there :/

Assuming you have both OS's installed, boot into one of them, use 'msconfig' on RUN and set the default OS using the settings available.

Yeah, I've had a look - it does appear to be number one in the boot list!

However I've noticed that when I click the boot menu, it does read E2, where as my other drive is E1? But then in the slider window, the SSD is first!

And yeah, basically it forces me to press F1 to enter the set up, rather than load windows!

I don't think anyone else has asked, but why do you still have the windows installation on your 500GB drive if you've already installed to your SSD?

It's probably conflicting somewhere because it's noticing your original hard drive still has a boot partition, also one thing you might want to do is check the numbering of the SATA ports you're using, try to put the SSD in either port 0 or 1, depending on what it's labeled on your board.

My mistake, forgot to mention I took that HDD out, with Windows 7.

It's connected to the same SATA as the W7 drive was, so it's already in the right one!
