my computer recently fluxed itself out, the motherboard and CPU broke completely, i bought the same CPU because i thought it was originally just the cpu that broke, because my old mobo still gets a green light when its on, however the computer fails after 5 seconds when i use it.

so i got a new cpu, tried both of the cpus and only one works (new one) which confirmed my suspicions, the old one has bent pins so is definately broken, anyway more problems popped up

my ram is 800mhz, the mobo is 1066mhz and 1600mhz dual channels, this seems a problem, the pc keeps stalling and i guess its the ram!

the cpu is AM2 but is listed as compatible, not sure if it is a problem but it may be, the motherboard is AM2+/AM3

the pc turns on but it stalls up really quick and fails to load, i cant figure out why but i assume its the cpu and or ram, i just dont know what needs replacing :(

i think if im not mistaken AM2 and AM2+ are different types of fitment?

im not much of an AMD man but i think its that.

if they are different you would be putting a CPU onto a socket that doesnt fit. thus breaking the CPU/socket.

would be good if someone could confirm/deny it.

Multiple sockets have been announced which are in theory pin-compatible with socket AM2, but which differ in terms of features.

Socket AM2+

Main article: Socket AM2+

Socket AM2+ is an intermediate successor to socket AM2, which features split power planes, and HyperTransport 3.0. Socket AM2+ chips can plug into a socket AM2 motherboard (although certain motherboard manufacturers do not support this), but operate only with HyperTransport 2.0. AM2 CPUs are no longer manufactured, and are usually only available second hand.

so possiblity is that the manufacturer of your mobo is one that is not actually compatible so you should check on the tech specs to make sure

this is the mobo and the box/description states Athlon 64? i have a dual core 6400+ amd 3.2ghz dual core, the pc does run and everything works but it freezes and crashes.

the asrock board you have is not compatible with your athlon x2 6400+ :(

the athlon x2 6400+ is a 125w cpu and your motherboard only takes up to 95w cpu's.

i think this is your problem.
