ok, i have a 360 and although i enjoy it, my home pc is crap (pentium III 1ghz), and i think it makes more sense to sort it out as i use it more, than having a machine just for gaming.

I've already got a buyer for the 360 and am using the money i get from this (£315) for upgrades. The parts i will be needing are a cpu, motherboard, memory, gfx card & power supply. Im into gaming so i'll be looking for the most powerful components i can get, even if i can't play this generation of games, i should be able to play all the games i missed out on over recent years, thanks to my crap system (half life 2, call of duty etc etc).

any suggetsions on components not costing over £315 in total???

I would have to agree there - you will be disappointed if you want to get essentially a full system capable of playing games like HL2 well for £300. You'd have to go for essentially the cheapest of everything, and it would remain a fairly bad system. If you want a proper gaming system save some more money, otherwise stick with the 360 if I were you.

yea im still in two minds over it, but my pc is really struggling and i use it more, web browsing, music, video and games etc. I might be able to save some of the cash if i get that dual mobo which has agp and pci-express as i can still use my current geforce2mx for the time being

You could, but the thing is you then have some quirky halfway between generations motherboard, you still can't remotely use the system for games, etc, etc.

If you were happy to forget the gaming idea altogether you can get a usable general purpose system for not much more than £350 or so, but if games are the priority then you won't get anywhere near the graphical quality of XBOX 360 games for the price.
