Afternoon all,

So after having built a new desk and moving everything around, my PC will no longer turn on, begins to boot but then shuts off and cycles around, removed graphics card and plugged into onboard graphics, still no luck.

Looking at replacing the PSU first as it's the cheaper option and likely the oldest component, failing that it may be a motherboard issue, the problem is, I don't know a huge amount about what I can and cannot use in my current setup (hence the noob bit) I don't build PC's myself, my old man built this system a good 10+ years ago, the only thing I've bought for it in that time was a 5700XT GPU.

My specs are below, any advice would be greatly appreciated:-

  • MB - Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI
  • CPU - Intel Core i5-6600k
  • GPU - Powercolour Red Devil 5700XT
  • PSU - unsure on brand, but 700W is all I can tell you
  • RAM - 8GB (2x4GB) unsure on brand (DDR4)

That's not so bad, I don't mind upgrading to DDR5 in the future, I firstly need to get the PSU upgrade to hopefully get the pc back up and running again..

Been looking at a couple of Corsair RM ones, hard to know whether to go 650 or 1000 as budget is not a huge issue really (don't want to bankrupt myself obviously) but hard to know what kind of power will be required in future as opposed to now? I've no idea what my current setup demands
