Am thinking of upgrading from 5300 to 6400. Is there I noticeable difference in speed? I have 2Gb of 5300. So would it be worth just upping to 3Gb or going for 2Gb of 6400? Processor is AMD X2 4000 Dual Core.

Thanks.

As standard I don't think it would be worth it. I can't see you getting a noticeable improvement.

If you plan to overclock etc I would only recommend it if your RAM is hoding your CPU back.

I assume you have 2x1GB modules? You mention going to 3GB, do you mean by adding another single module? Then you you'd be running single channel - better off going for 4GB.

That's right - 2x1Gb. I think I'll go for 4 as you say. I do a lot of photo editing. Is a single 4Gb module better than a pair of 2s please? Proper noob stuff this :p . Am not overclocking btw

Thanks for the replies all.

How hefty a photo editing do you do?

I have a Q6600 at 3.6Ghz and 4GB Ballistix and the high res large images I create (albeit only in Fireworks) cripple my system. System requirements for this type of task isn't my forte but I think 8GB+ is preferable.

Using photoshop the saved images are 80-100mb. The manipulation isn't too taxing at the moment, but that will increase when I use landscape creation software.
