Currently have a 8800GTS 512mb, was looking to upgrade to a 9800GTX+ or possible 200 series. What would you guys recommend, what is currently the sweet spot?

Depending on how much money you have to spend I'd say the "sweet spot" is currently a radeon 4850 or 4870.

19" so 1280x1024 but i max everything its dropping to low 20's FPS in s.t.a.l.k.e.r clear skies in some areas. Not really desperate for an upgrade but bored lol.

Clear sky runs like crap on my 4870 :/.. I wouldn't upgrade just for this.

Unless you want to play Warhead in fine detail for all of 4 hours of gameplay then I really wouldn't bother upgrading... there's nothing that great out atm.

I have a 4870 and it's going to waste. Almost wish I'd waited but I too have an itchy trigger finger and I was coming from the 320mb model...

Are you saying that a 4870 is not a decent upgrade from a 8800gts 320 as from benches and other peoples experience its a real big upgrade in performance.

Well...the 9800GTX+ is just an 8800GTS 512 that has been to the gym, so really you want to be looking at the 4870 or GTX260.

As others have said though...think about how much you need to upgrade.

No point in a 9800 GTX+ as you already have one, that was renamed to the 9800 GTX, with the '+' one slightly overclocked.

Id go for the 4870 as the 200 series are not worth buying, the GTX 260's are slower and dearer than the 4870's (EDIT: just seen 2 in the TWO, but they are only a couple of quid lower than the 4870), and the GTX 280's are not much faster, with the 4870 beating them at high res with lots of AA, yet the 280's are over £100 more. :)

Hehehehe loadsa always has to repeat himself (especially about nvidia naming) but i always agree...listen to him.

At that res, there is virtually no point in upgrading, I doubt you would see more than a couple fps difference in most games because of bottlenecking from other sources.

my 9800gtx isnt that much of a noticable improvement over my 8800gt

i would stick to what you have until something worth buying comes out
