Hi Guys, I'm thinking of upgrading my 3 yr old 512mb 4870 and have a budget of £160ish. Any advice on what to go for would be greatly appreciated. I'm a great fan of games like Dragon Age 1 & 2, Fallout 3/New Vegas etc. I will be wanting to play Witcher 2 next month, Portal 2 all on the highest res I can.

I'm currently running all my games in 1680x1050 at pretty high levels without much problem. Would going for a 1024mb 6870 be worth it?

I'm running an Asus P5Q Pro mobo, Q6600 Quad Core CPU, 4 gig ram,
Win 7 64bit, 22 inch Samsung Monitor.

Thank for any help

Tony

I'd never have thought of that. How long do you think they'd last me before I'd be upgrading again to keep up with the latest games? I'm particularly thinking of Skyrim...

Thanks

800w is pretty beefy. If you could scavenge an extra £39.99 up from somewhere, check the back of the sofa etc, then I'd go for something like this:

Still capable of running anything maxed, enough oomph to keep you going for a long time.

If theres nothing down the sofa, then perhaps something like:

I've never had Nvidia before, something warns me off them for some reason but I don't know what it is. Like your second idea :) but I'm thinking of maybe going down the sli route with a couple of 5870's

Thanks

Tony

What model number is your PSU?? Wattage means nothing if you have a poor quality PSU,ie, an 800W EZCool or CiT PSU would be probably blow up with a GTX480 for example.

Hi ui would like to see how your upgrade goes. Im on the same card and with the rest of my pc i want a nice jump in the GPU department without breaking the bank.

Tell us how it goes.

I downgraded from a 5970 to a 480 recently and it plays everything I can throw it (1920 * 1200) including BC2 and Crysis 2. Fantastic card. You can't beat the price/performance.

What about seeing about getting a second 4870 and crossfiring? We appear to have not too dissimilar rigs and mine generally munches anything I throw at it even with high AA and AF.
