Hi all.

I'm thinking of upgrading my machine and i've been out of the loop for a couple of years so could do with a bit of advice.

I use my machine for gaming at 1920x1200 and a few other bits n bobs.

What I'm using now:
Asus P5Q pro board
E6400 @ 3.2ghz
4GB DDR2
ATI 4890 factory clocked 950mhz.
Corsair TX750

I was going to keep my PSU, HDD'S, Case & optic drives and sell the rest on fleabay and buy these:

Should I be buying dual or tri channel DDR3? I assumed it was a dual channel board but dont really know..

570 OR 5970? Decided on nVidia this time as my 4890 is too noisey and i've read the 5970's are noisey too. Once this 4890 cranks up past 60% its very loud.

Is this a worthy upgrade? Do you think I would get much for my old gear on fleabay to put towards the new stuff?

Thanks in advance fellas!

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Spec looking ok, you need dual channel memory for that board which you have specced.
GPU, you could look at the one below which offers similar performance for less money.

We can't really comment on 2nd hand price for your old items as we have separate forum for Price checks which you can't access yet I`m afraid.

Wow, I think you'll see a noticeable increase in speed. You're lucky.

+1 on a better cooler though as the overclocking potential on that chip is supposed to be great.

Looks good! allthough if you can spend money on any thing else get a bigger SSD, such a great upgrade ! Dont know what I would do with out one now lol

Thanks for your kind replys.

Is there any significant difference between the 4xx & 5xx series? I have looked at the comparison and I see what your saying about same performance at a lower cost.

I wont be overclocking the cpu for probably a year or so, When I do i'll buy a new fan.

I thought 64GB SSD would be good for OS and a few programs/games.. I have 2x1tb sata's for storage.

Is a GTX 480 a significant upgrade from a HD4890? I know I need to leave the e6400 behind and upgrade platforms from 775 but curious if I kept my 4890 would it run better along side the i5 untill the gtx 6xx series comes out?

Sorry for all the questions.
