Upgrading a Macbook Pro

Hi guys,

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro and it is seriously starting to struggle. I only really use it for photography so I don't want to splash out on a brand new one.

I note it is relatively easy to replace the standard hard drive with a solid state and then upgrade the RAM. Will this have a large impact on the ability of the laptop or will it be the CPU that is restricting its use?

I would be performing a full reformat to clear it out and believe the RAM is the thing that is currently limiting it, with everything taking an age to open.

You'll be limited to SATA-II performance (250MB/s) so there's no point spending the premium on a particularly expensive SDD.

Can you recommend anything in particular?

Depends how much storage you want, but a 500+GB drive will cost anywhere from £150-300.

Ah, I know shiver recommended the Samsung EVO, I just wasn't sure if that was overkill based on what Tunney said.
