A friend has £220 inc delivery to spend on a few upgrades.

He currently has the following spec.

E6600
2gb of generic ram
8800gs gfx card
Cheap and nasty psu (maybe 600w)

I advised upgrading the psu, graphics card and maybe a better cpu cooler as he's using the oem intel one but intends to overclock.

I suggested...

HIS HD 5770 Graphics Card £99.99
Antec TruePower New Modular 650W Power Supply £69.99
Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler £34.99

Carriage £9.50
Total inc vat = £216.14

My question is can I do better? I looked at cheaper psu's including ONE but looking at reviews lets say there's better :)

He has already ordered a new CASE but can't confirm the cooler will fit, any one care to comment?

This review http://www.xsreviews.co.uk/reviews/cases/cubitek-tattoo-fire/ says that the maximum CPU cooler height is 160mm, which is exactly the same height as the Akasa Venom. So maybe a shorter cooler would be a better choice. The Scythe Yasya is 159mm, the Titan Fenrir Evo is 156mm, the Gelid Tranquillo is 153mm, those would be three of my suggestions.

You're not going to need anywhere near a 650W PSU for a 5770, so he better be planning to keep that PSU for a long time.

I'd go this route, better gfx, and more reasonable cooler/psu, the antec is great but is a large chunk of a small budget, this one would suffice, Id then also recomend when he can afford a bit more he gets 4 gig of new RAM as that will make a big difference to his general experience

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 OC 768MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £117.49
OCZ StealthXStream 2 500W Power Supply £45.99
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler (Socket 939 / AM2 / AM3 / 775 / 1156 / 1366) £18.99
Sub Total : £155.29
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with:
DPD Next Day Parcel
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £10.00
VAT is being charged at 17.50% VAT : £28.93
Total : £194.22

Thanks for the advice, went for the Gelid Tranquillo cooler and for the price you can't go wrong.

Sound advice, went with this spec except the cooler and he's very happy, with a small overclock on his E6600 he can finally play Back Ops at reasonable FPS. :)

You could get him some bargains off MM also ;)

Could do but he wanted the gear for Xmas so didn't have much time and with the weather at the moment it's just easier to buy new and guarantee delivery.
