Bonus came through this month and as such I'm looking at upgrading the PC. The last thing I upgraded was the GPU in early lockdown. I've not touched the rest for a few years now and my CPU is getting a little tired.
Here's what I'm currently running:
CPU: 10600k
GPU: 3080 12GB
RAM: 32GB DDR4 4200 *edit* Its 3600 running at 4200
MOBO: MSI Z490 Tomahawk
Storage: 2x 1TB Sabrent pcie 3.0 NVME Drives. 1x 4TB Old spindle based WD drive
Case: Fractal Meshify 2 Compact
CPU Cooler: Noctua D15
PSU: Corsair TX850M
I'm of the opinion that my GPU is probably alright, as is my RAM (if I go for a DDR4 board) but I'm pretty out of the loop. Is it still worth keeping hold of the bits I can or is it worth a new build (minus GPU) from scratch?
I've always gone Intel as I've had trouble with AMD in the past but might be willing to try them again if they make the best CPU at the moment.
Happy to spend a bit more on good kit, don't want cheap and cheerful but also don't want to spend cash for the sake of it. Is there a sweet spot kind of like when I bought the 10600k back in the day?
Final question, will I really notice a difference day to day? I do play games on the thing but don't really want to pay for a 40 series GPU when I have the 3080 but I'm starting to feel the 10600 is holding me back. I use the PC for my work too so general performance is as/more valuable to me than just gaming.
