My friend has a PC bought several years ago, main part I'm wondering about being an i3 550. He'd rather not have to change it all out, and I was wondering if with a 750 Ti added in, it would be a decent gaming rig? He wants to play BF4, settings on high/medium would be good.

what is the pc? What else does it have in it? motherboard and psu are the things we need to know about.

I know all the rest of the specs, it's compatible. I was wondering how it would perform in games with a 750 Ti added to it's i3 550 (and 4GB of RAM that will probably become 8).

I would guess it would be ok as its a 2 core 4 thread chip as long as he doesnt expect all the eye candy at max resolution but it will be a massive jump over the onboard if thats what hes using.

What I was thinking, 4 threads isn't bad and the 750 Ti is a capable budget card. He could add that in for £100 odd and have a decent computer.

as long as is not an HP you should be ok, somehow they seem to lock out gpus including the nvidia 700 series! A lot of people try to upgrade to the 750ti for its low power hence ability to in theory work with crappy oem psus but newer hp pcs with uefi bios dont want to boot with it no mattyer what you try and tweak in the limited bios. might be a problem with other oem pcs too so might want to do some research online on the particular brand of pc first...
