Hey Guys,

Im going to be upgrading a PC in my work for my own use during work hours, and i need some help upgrading it. Its an old Dell E521 and the motherboard is a Dell Inc 0CT103. The CPU which is in it is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+

Does anyone know of an upgrade? Its rather sluggish and its often running at 70-100% CPU usage.

Thanks.

I was working on my dad's machine the other day, almost if not the same CPU - they are very old now.

I turned up with a RAM upgrade only to find it was actually running DDR not DDR2 RAM!. Although on further inspection, yours looks to be DDR2. So think about putting 2x2Gb sticks in to replace what is already there - online auction site for under £20.

All that CPU usage is probably "work crap". A nice format will make a big difference. If you can afford it, stick an SSD in and run the OS from that instead. Maybe another £65

What's the graphics? Could you get a second hand upgrade, something like a HD 5670 / 6670 - might even be overkill, but should be do-able for £30.

That's about £100-120 total and the machine will be much better.

But really, for £220 you could buy a new AMD APU system - so you have to ask "is it worth it"?

Format it, stick windows on, see how it goes.
