Hi everyone,
I was looking at upgrading my computer and I was hoping to keep some of my original parts:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200
Radeon HD 7750
HDD 600gb
Packard Bell iMedia x2416 case

I was looking for a new:
Motherboard
PSU
8gb RAM

I was also going to get an OCZ Vertex 3 120gb and Windows 7 64bit.

Would I need a new CPU or can I keep my current?
Can I re use my old case?

Thanks guys

Luke

You would need a new CPU as your current one only works on LGA775 boards.

Add the SSD+Win7 first and do a fresh install of windows (maybe even using the free Win8 preview instead of Win7?)

Okay then well need to add a CPU to that then. Can probably add an extra £50 to the total. I don't need it for intense gaming, so don't need too much stuff. My motherboard at the minute is a crappy Packard bell one which only has sata2 ports rather than a sata 3 one for using with the ssd.

And are all your existing drives (HDD's and DVD drives) all SATA?

Does your case take a full size ATX board or smaller mATX?

It should be full size motherboard thingy. I'm not that great with technology to be honest.

Yeah that looks like it's that one. The motherboards full name is mcp73pvt-pm

I added two links above, could you take a look and see if thats the same case.

Maybe even a get a picture you have taken yourself up here?

So it's highly likely that the case only takes mATX and is the same as the picture, but it's best to wait for you to get home and get back with the correct information.

Okay. So what sort of replacement motherboard would I need for an mATX?

Something like this,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Samsung 128GB SSD 830 Series SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive - (MZ-7PC128B/WW) £83.99
1 x Intel Pentium G840 2.80GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £56.99
1 x Gigabyte H61MA-D3V Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £47.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38192M1600HC11DC) £29.99
Total : £230.35 (includes shipping : £9.50).

The motherboard has two SATAIII ports (via a third party addon chip) and two rear USB3.0 ports (again from an extra chip)

You then need to check your PSU has a 24pin ATX and additional 4pin ATX for the board.
