Upgrading CPU. Bios require resetting?

Hi all,

My current system is as follows:
CPU E6750 @ 3.6Ghz
ASUS P5KE mobo
4GB (2x2GB) Geil Black Dragon DDR2 @ 900MHz

I've just acquired a Q9550 and would like to know is it possible to put the new CPU in or do I need to reset the bios to remove my current OC settings?
I want it to recognise stock settings 1st and make sure everything is stable and then I want to work on the OC, where I’m hopefully able to get it running stable to at least 3.8Ghz have my ram running at 900MHz (if synced 1:1)

Would putting the new chip in automatically reset all my settings?

Any tips appreciated.

I plan on updating the BIOS at the same time as it's still the default BIOS that the mobo came with!

OK time to investigate how to reset the comos :)

There's usually two jumper pins that just need shorting out for a couple of seconds - sometimes there's an actual jumper to clip over the pins to do it, others don't - but the pins will still be there. Any small metal object accross the pins will do it (small flat-head screwdriver will do the trick :)) Take a look in your mobo manual to find out where they're hiding on your board.

well got my CPU sorted but have a problem it would seem (although maybe a common problem). Stuck sensors. Chip is an E0 stepping (if that info is helpful)

- Idle -
Core1: 39°C
Core2: 26°C
Core3: 24°C
Core4: 37°C

- Load -
Core1: 44°C
Core2: 41°C
Core3: 39°C
Core4: 39°C

Readings done via Core Temp 0.99.7
This is Air cooled with a thermalright U120 + 1x Noctua fan.
Any cause for concern with the variation in load temps. I still need to clock this chip as well.

Every 45nm core cpu i have had so far has had stuck sensors. It's either all stuck as was the case with my E8500/E5200/E6300 (all stuck in the 40's) or a single one as in my Q9550 with core 3 stuck at 31 degrees. Don't worry though as they move when heated beyond the temp they are stuck at. It's load temps that matter. There's nothing that can be done about it anyway. Temps seem ok but core 1 is a little more than the other's. Try reseating the heatsink maybe?

Hmmm yeah the temp does seem higher on 1 core. usually a max of 6°C difference.
I might invest in a new cooler as i'm pretty certain the heatsink is down tight! but will look into reseating it. In doing a reseat, is it advisable to apply new thermal paste?
