Upgrading CPU

most laptops these days have the processors soldered directly to the motherboard.

what CPU does your laptop currently have? (a CPU-Z screenshot would be handy)

Yeah I thought it being soldered may be the case but im not entirely sure, i figured this is one of the better places to ask :)

yes you could upgrade the processor but it will cost you a fortune hence new processor still expensive.

I don't believe that to be the case for the majority of laptops, some ultraportables and netbooks do but most mainstream stuff is socketed.

fair enough, of the last few laptops i disassembled, a couple were ultra-portables, nine or so were netbooks and the rest were ultra-cheap 15-inch value-whales (mostly Toshibas ) and only a few of the 15-inchers didn't have soldered CPUs, but I suppose that isn't a very good sample-size is it? :D
