I currently have in my system a 1.8ghz Core2Duo and im upgrading it to a Core2Duo 3.0ghz.

Will I need to upgrade the heat sink for this would you imagine or would the standard one it fitted with be ok?

Many Thanks in advance,

Richard

How much are you paying for the upgrade? That's an old system to be doing a minor CPU upgrade on. If your motherboard will support a core2quad that would be a much bigger step up if you can find one cheap enough. If not it might be better to save your money towards a new rig.

Hi thanks for the advice, not a lot mate, about £30.00 for the Processor. Looking to buy a new rig in the future just want a bit of a better processor for when running COD4.

Many thanks again for the advice though - looking to go Quad Core soon and sadly my MOBO does not support Quad :(

What motherboard do you have? If the processor comes with the stock cooler then that will be fine as long as you are not planning on overclocking. If not then just get a very cheap LGA 775 compatible cooler to tide you over.

Sorry have not replied back for a while, I have done all the upgrading and everything seems ok for the moment - looking to overclock it though will have a look through the forums thanks for all the advice though guys!

If you wish, let us know what your upgraded CPU and motherboard is...then may be we can give you a rough idea on what your target overclock range should be.
