Upgrading CPU

Hi all,

I'am going to be upgrading my CPU. I currently have an i7-7700K, and I'am looking at i7-9700k.

My Motherboard is a Asus Strix B250F Gaming Intel B250. Both of the CPU's and the Motherboard is a 1151 Socket. But I'am sure the other day i read that the 9th gen Processors may not work on some older Motherboards even tho they are the same socket. Is that true?

I looked at my Motherboards support and it list the newest compatible CPU as i7-7700T, but I'am not sure if that list is up to date. Also i know I'am not running the latest BIOS firmware i can update to the latest version that came out 28/09/2018.

two options, slap in a Z270 board and overclock the nuts off the 7700k, might hit 5ghz !

or i7 9700k + z390 board

so my current board would not support the i7 9700k?

no , to be fair 7700k at 5ghz is pretty quick

I was going to get the 9900k, really wanted it to be an upgrade for games. In the end delidded by 7700k and now running 5.2 ghz.I'm not sure you would see much of a difference in gaming (7700k vs. 9700k if at all). If doing lots of other stuff then fair enough.

not if you can reach 5.2ghz

but only problem with older chipset is having to do the delid... but , if you were thinking about upgrading... would be worth the risk

That was my view, if i broke it good reason to get a 9900k. I tried my best but really was that easy. Pleased with the outcome, feel like a baller. 50 cent has been in touch to join g-unit. I'm considering my options.
