About time I upgraded (at least some) of my 2 year old computer.

Current setup is:

ASUS P5W DH Deluxe SKT 775
Core 2 Duo E6600 running @ 3ghz
Sapphire ATI X1950XT 256MB GDDR3 VIVO dual DVI (single)
PC2-6400 Geil Ultra 2x1GB

I'm looking for the best value upgrade. Money isn't strictly an object, but looking to save where I can, and upgrade just whats needed. If it all has to go then so be it :|.

My first thought is just to upgrade the processor and graphics cards, but would appreciate pointers on what is currently the main bottleneck for my system if i wanted to play CURRENT high-end computer games. Also, are ATI or nVidia the way to go these days, its been a while since I last checked!

Thanks for any advice!

start by getting at least 2 more gigs of RAM (its very cheap)
single core cards, Nvidia are ahead, just with the GTX280, followed closely by the GTX260 216 core or 4870

Using 1680x1050 on 22" Dell FPW.

Primarily used for gaming, although I've not bought a new one for a while. Mostly play Civ 4, Age of Emipres 3, and Unreal Tournament 3.

EDIT: Wow, Memory is cheap!!! Thanks!

Thanks for suggestions.

With regards to the ATI GFX cards, would the standard 4850/70s be a worthwhile upgrade, or is it just the X2's that you'd recommended ? As I said, no strict budget, just looking for best "bang for buck" improvement really.

Also, If I buy this RAM:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... EVO ONE DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GE24GB800C4DC)

Would it be worthwhile installing it in addition to my current Geil memory (as it has the same timings and speeds), or would you recommend I remove the old stuff completely?

The 4870 will more than do, you dont need the x2, the 4850 will prob do too tbh
Re RAM, if you have 32bit OS bin your old stuff and replace with new, if you have 64 bit use both
