upgrading firmware

i want to upgrade the firmware on my phones, i know that sony ericcson has a nice easy tool on their website, i dont know if this is for firmware or software but it seems to do the job nicely, but i cant seem to fond a similar thing for my samsung x830

that seems to be the only thing i have found, but it dont tell you what is different in the new firmware or any details at all, could somebody please help

also is it best to use the sony ericcson firmware on their website or better off getting one from a mobile forum

1. I think (apart from the Smartphones) Nokia and Sony Ericsson are the only two that I've seen that allow home upgrading. If you want software upgrades of other brands, you usually have to take it to the nearest service centre, and they will usually upgrade the software for free within the warranty period.

2. If your SE phone is just an unbranded one, sure you can just use the SE provided software. However, if you want to debrand your phone, you can't use the SE software because it will only ever upgrade to the same branding. So, for that, you have to use market stalls, mobile forum softwares etc etc.
 
well ive updated my w950i 2 times so far through sony ericssons updater, not really seen any differences, the samsung on the other hand says there are no updates, will give it some time or i will try the manual firmware update, does anyone know any tricks for these phones?
