Just got a nice 4k 60" TV with pretty low input lag so thinking I'll game on this mostly now. Also want to get a Rift soon too.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get another 980ti as they can be had 2nd hand for around £240 now. On top of this I've got about £500 set aside and I'll likely look at 2nd hand through the member's market.

I've had a 2500k running at 4.6 for the last 5 years but I assume this will be a bottleneck now?

I've looked at the new AMD chips but have read there are some issues with them as it's still early days.

Apart from gaming I do a lot of photo editing (sometimes with large panoramic photos) and some video editing.

The rest of my spec is as in my Sig.

Suggestions?

I think you would benefit from upgrading to an i7 / 7 series for the extra processing threads if you will be doing a lot of photo work alongside the gaming.

In regard to the AMD ryzen chips, they have had issues mainly with optimisation and memory but new bios updates are doing well at addressing some of these issues. Its early days so its hard to say how much the improvements will help the new AMD cpu's just yet but you can be pretty sure what you are getting with intel.

ultimately its a choice that comes down to price vs performance and how much you think AMD will optimise in the near future.

Thanks for the info.

Any particular CPU/RAM/MOBO combos I should look out for?

I'll also need a new cooler as can't seem to source the adapter brackets in the UK at the moment.
