Upgrading from 144

Since the new arrival of conroe (and to a lesser extent AM2) I've been bitten by the upgrade bug again. My current 144 will get to 2.7-2.8 stabley (not sure what factor limits it after that, could be almost everything) but it's just not the comparative whirlwind of speed it was 6 months ago and at the very least I think it's about time to get a dual-core processor.

The question is what will be a decent upgrade? I figure that if I stay using 939 (financially preferrable) then i'll have to go with something with a x10 multi at least as I don't think my Asus premium is stable past 310 FSB and that limits me to 2.8ghz. So that means a X2 3800 or 165 is probably out and I don't know how well other chips really clock. 170s and x2 4400s are hard to find and expensive and X2 4600 only have 512kb of cache.

Then of course I could wait a few months, see how the conroe overclockers pan out and do a full scale upgrade. The only real problem with that is that almost everything will need to be upgraded. So far my rather tastey SLi set-up won't work with Conroe so that'll require a change (or down grade) too. In fact only my PSU and harddisks will be transferrable..

So what would people here do?

Hmm.....that is a cheap upgrade and I didn't realise it was x10 multi. Might look at the 4600+ though as they are seriously cheap too and have a x12. Doubt it'll clock MUCH higher, but it certainly take my max FSB out of the equation.
