Upgrading from 19" - 22 or 24?

Basic question as title. I could stretch to afford a 24" but I don't really want to.

My question is - is there a lot of difference between a 22" and a 24" as an upgrade? Will I still notice a big difference with a 22" having upgraded from a 19"?
 
i recently did the same upgrade 19>22 and the difference is very noticeable, especially with the extra resolution for windows desktop usage. try going back to a 19in after you're used to it, and it feels tiny. the main reason i picked a 22in (apart from it's obviously cheaper in the first place :p) is that i don't have to stay on the bleeding edge to play new games. 1680x1050 is much easier to power than 1920x1200. :)
 
Yes, good advice, thank you. I am leaning more towards the 22". Also, as someone else mentioned in another thread, I sit very close to the monitor and 24" may be a little too much.
 
It really does depend on how much desktop space you will use. I have a 20" 1680x1050 after replacing a 19" 1440x900 and soon I will be replacing it with a 24" for the 1920x1200 and eventually I'll get another 24" for a dual desktop setup.

I like having lots of desktop space for various things I do but in general the 1680x1050 is definately a lot better but perhaps 22" will be even better due to the bigger pixels.
 
I have just upgraded to a 22" w/s from a 19" standard aspect and its extremely noticeable, the extra space and resolution make it a lot nicer & easier to work on, and games look great at full res too :)

@ Klo, I have always been picky about a screens clarity and pixel size as I like a sharp looking image, and I can honestly say that the 22" i'm currently using is sharp enough and very clear, possibly a 20" with the same res may look too small?

Also I have seen that monitor in the flesh and whilst its a good monitor (I was actually going to buy that one) the new Samsung T220 that I have is much better, not just in build quality but also in image quality, well worth the slight extra :)

Ah right, I see :) I was just wondering if you'd notice the difference between the slightly bigger pixles and the smaller ones. Seems not.

Hmm, I may have to have a look at that! How does that compare to the Samsung 226BW? The problem is is that there are so many very ismilar types to choose from!

I have seen the 226BW & the 2232BW side by side and I would say that the 2232BW has the better image quality and the 226BW the better screen exterior, but seriously the T220 is better than both of these screens for both exterior and image, well worth it. Also if you google the monitor then you'll see an etailer offering £20 cash back direct from Samsung at the moment, so its the same price as the 2232BW but its not on for long :)
 
24"

22" is in the middle of too small and just right. 24" panels ARE just right. text is shaper, and you have 30% more desktop space. i went from a 19 to a 22" dell - it was a waste of time in hindsight. also unless your prepared to pay, your stuck with tn-film panels on 22"

Just a quick query: how far away do you sit from your monitor? I sit around 1 foot away from my 24" and find that distance fine (I can lean back if I need the "big picture")
 
I sit about 2 to 2.5 feet from my 24"er and imo that's absolutely fine.

I moved from my 19" 4:3 to 24" 16:10 and the jump was huge, as you would expect but not sure if 19" to 22" is a big enough jump to make it worth it (but I guess that depends on personal preference).
 
I recently moved from a 21" 4:3 CRT to my 22" TFT 16:10.

I don't see my monitor as big, but seeing as I upgraded to a 42" TV at the same time, it's hardly surprising. I find 22" at 1600x1050 perfect, I'm not I'd like it to be any bigger.

That said, I may purchase a second one, when I move. I do miss my old dual monitor setup (21" CRT at 1900x? and 17" at 1152x864), and a dual 22" monitor setup, would be awesome, I find it useful for graphical and web dev, mainly.

I do find with a single monitor, however, that I am more focused on what's going on, having only one monitor to look at, the "extra" work with just a single, is very noticable, though. I constantly find myself flicking through the task bar, looking for things.

This is just your opinion though, isn't it. I haven't heard anyone say before the 22" were intrinsically wrong - for you maybe!
 
are 22" widescreen the same height as a 19" non widescreen?

or is it the 24" models that have the same hieght..

i'm tempted to get a 22" for the same reasons as Lysander & marc.. don't want to have to upgrade my 8800gt for a few years

I'm not sure that's something you need to worry about. Most 24" screens will scale down to the equivalent of a 22" screen anyway, so you can scale it for demanding games whilst still having the option of full resolution desktop, and either playing slightly older games at full res or buying a brand new GPU to enable you to play the latest games at full res.

24" at least gives you the option.

why put up with lower image quality and less desktop space when a 24" doesnt cost a lot more? i went 19 > 22 > 24. i shouldnt have bothered with the 22 and you wont find people who've done the same say differently. by all means, choose whatever size you wish. but dont discount the opinions of peopel who have had all 3 sizes. we actually offer some good advice!

well, my 24" @ 1680x1050 is better than my dell was at that resolution.

i want to get something that "wow"'s me from my current Xerox 19"
