Is it worth me upgrading from 4GB (4x1gb) to 8GB (4x2gb)?

I have this board
http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2625#sp

1.Supports DDR2 1066*/800/667 memory
2.Dual Channel architecture supports up to 8GB by 4 DIMM slots

I currently have a [email protected] (400 x 9, 1:1)

I dont want to get 8gb but then find I can only overclock to 3.4ghz. Where would the extra memory be used? I hear of people having 16gb now a days not sure where its needed really.

I can currently (did do last week) play BF3 at 2560 x 1440 in ultra settings with no problems

Thanks

I only puchased an extra 4 gig to add to my previosu 4 gig for my machine because I do a bit of video editing and like tatting about with stuff in Photoshop...

For games etc I don't think you will benefit from the extra 4 gig.

Well thats what I was told about extra memory for games...

As for playing BF3 at those resolutions you specify then I wouldnt worry about your gfx either....

If you can afford it, why not? Memory is so cheap, you might as well. Not enough of a CPU buff to know if you'd notice much difference though.
I have 8gig and while it rarely goes over 4 gig usage, it does sometimes but then I have lots of applications open all the time. Depends on your usage I suppose.

Hi there,

Personally I wouldn't upgrade, unless you are regularly going over your 4GB. If you are mainly gaming then you shouldn't be hitting this limit.

The reason I say this is because DDR3 may be really cheap right now, but DDR2 is still expensive and getting 8GB of the stuff will cost you ~£100 (compared to £45 for the same amount of faster DDR3).
